Stanford Days 5 & 6

Sorry for not posting! We have been busy but so very blessed.

SUNDAY

On Sunday, we attended Bethany Lutheran Church with Aletha & Denis. It's a small congregation but so friendly. They have been praying for me and it was nice to get to fellowship with them. We hope to be able to attend service again after my surgery before heading home.

After church, we met up with Jill & Campbell MacInnes for lunch. Jill was my very first contact at Stanford and she even came to meet me for my very first procedure 7 years ago. She was an angel. She and her family have supported so many of us in the Moyamoya community. Her daughter Tara is a phenomenal young woman and Moyamoya advocate. Campbell is also spearheading a Moyamoya patient get together at Stanford every month. We should be able to attend next Monday! It was a real blessing to be able to spend time with Jill & Campbell. We had so much fun that we forgot to get a photo!

MONDAY

We met with Dr. Steinberg this morning and then I got the last of my labs drawn. Dr. Steinberg was awesome as usual and took time to go over my scans so far. He showed us my angiogram from 2016 that showed absolutely no blockage of my MCA, then compared it to the angiogram done on Thursday. The difference was staggering. One branch of the MCA was almost completely closed off and the other was significantly blocked. The MRIs and angiogram all show that I have been at increased stroke risk from lack of blood flow. Praise God that we caught this in time! The angio also showed that my right side graft still looks fabulous. Bobby got to see scans that showed my right side STA had continued to shut down, but the graft has been so successful that it has completely taken over the task of providing blood flow to the right side of my brain...such an encouraging thing to see prior to surgery. We pray that this surgery will be as successful and that we will see something similar happen on my left side!

Our amazing hosts, Aletha & Denis

We ended our night with delicious house made pasta at Osteria Toscana and some ice cream from Salt & Straw. You know you love ice cream when it's 55° out and you will still stand in a long line to get some! It was sooo yummy and the perfect end to the night.

We are scheduled for surgery at 2:15pm tomorrow. I can't eat solids after midnight and have to stop all liquids by 10:15 am. Bobby's friend Rob is flying up for the day to keep him company. So we will pick him up at 10 and then check into the hospital around noon. We would like to ask for prayers for a few specific things:

  • Please be in prayer that surgery starts on time. It is a 6 - 8 hour procedure and they usually say to expect it to go 8 hours.... That means even if everything goes according to schedule, Bobby will be waiting till 10:15 pm!
  • Please pray for Bobby, my parents & sisters (the boys do not know what is going on tomorrow as we felt this would be too much info for them to deal with) as they wait. Pray for peace, strength and comfort!
  • Please pray for Dr. Steinberg and his team, that God guides them so that the procedure is successful with no complications.
  • Please pray that I remain stable and stroke free throughout the surgery and my recovery.
Thank you all for your support, love and prayers! God is good and His timing and His plan are perfect.

Love,
Dana
